*Four MA studentships*
*French and Theatre studies*
The School of Arts and Humanities at Oxford Brookes University is
pleased to announce that 4 studentships are available for the Master by
Research in French. *The four successful MA candidates will have their
fees paid for one academic year* in return for a contractual obligation
to carry out data-transcription for six hours per week each. They will
participate in a funded research project on the Comédie-Française (Early
Modern period). To be considered for these studentships, applicants must
apply between 15th September and 10th October 2009.
*This award is open to UK and EU Students. *
The students will work closely with Dr Sabine Chaouche, Director of the
CESAR website (the dynamic database on Early Modern Theatre which
includes 400,000 data, 3,500 images and supplementary materials).
*The start date will be 1^st January 2010 or as soon as possible after
that.*
Applicants should have:
· a good first degree (normally a first or 2.1) in a relevant subject area;
· a high level of linguistic competence in French;
· two academic references;
· a sample of recent academic work written in English.

Students should choose a topic related to the Early Modern period or
Theatre. Preference will be given to students with an interest in doing
a critical edition of a play; in exploring the concept of ‘the
theatrical’; in examining one aspect of the History of the
Comédie-Française; in scrutinising the links between British and French
theatres during the period.
